God's love

day 15 – infinite love

Sam McBratney’s Little Nutbrown Hare asks Big Nutbrown Hare to “Guess How Much I Love You” and a much loved children’s story book is born.  Little Nutbrown and Big Nutbrown go back and forth explaining how great their love is for the other and it finally ends with, “I love you right up to the moon and back.”

We’ve loved this book in our home.  I’m sure that’s partly because we know just how hard it is to explain the enormity & depth of our love for our kids.  But God loves us even more than the unexplainable parental love.

The Psalmist describes God’s love for us as being so great, it reaches to the heavens!  The vastness of the universe is beyond our understanding, so is God’s love for us beyond our understanding as well?

For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.  Psalm 57:10

We truly can’t imagine just how great God’s love is, but next time you’re away from the city lights gaze up at the stars.  Even the farthest one we can see is not far enough to show how tremendous God’s love for us is.  His love is vast without measure!

Thank you Lord for love that is not constrained by earthly limitations.  May we each know Your love really does reach infinitely to the heavens.
