God's love

day 21 – lyrical love

I don’t know if you have ever been sung over.

We’ve been to a couple of weddings where the groom sang over his wife, but the most frequent way I see someone being sung over is when a mother (or father) sings over their little person.  I’ve certainly done a lot of singing over babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

No matter how upset they are, songs seem to soothe their little hearts.  I think it’s the same for all of us.

I’ve sung both in the middle of the night and in the middle of the day.  The night songs were most often Twila Paris’ “He Is Exalted” as my desperate plea to the Lord to bring calm and let me go back to sleep (and I couldn’t remember the words to other songs 🙂 ).  But the daytime singing could be anything from a “real song” to a song made up about cleaning our teeth.

It really is amazing how quickly an upset or out of control child can be calmed when you sing over them.  Even babysat children in our home have also often received a song or two if things were getting a little out of hand.

When your heart is racing, remember the Lord God will save you in whatever the stressful situation is, He delights in you and will quiet you with His love and sing over you.

Lord, thank You for the peace & love that comes when we surrender to You and we pause to hear Your voice singing over us.  May we trust You with everything and rest in that tranquillity.
