day 7 – love is…
When people think about love and scripture one passage is often the first to spring to mind. Some people even call it the one with those “wedding verses”, because that is how this passage is often used.
But 1 Corinthians 13 is as much a statement about God as it is about love.
God is love. Therefore, if love is patient, God is patient. If love is kind, God is kind. If love doesn’t envy, then God doesn’t envy… In fact, you could rewrite 1 Corinthians 13 and wherever you find the word “love” replace it with “God”.
God is patient, God is kind. God does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud. God does not dishonour others, He is not self-seeking, not easily angered and He keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. God always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God never fails. 1 Cor 13:4-8 paraphrased 🙂
We learn a lot about God and His love when we read it this way, don’t we?
Lord, thank You for love, and for being love. Thank You for making Your character so clear to us as we grow our understanding of love.
