to honour…what does that mean?

Honouring GodDo you ever find yourself uttering things under your breath?  Sometimes it happens to me without even realising until after the words are spoken.

My head feels so full.  However, as soon as my mind slows for even a moment one phrase gets repeated over and over.

“May I honour You, God?”

I don’t know where it came from, or what started this innocent recitation, but I know it’s my heart.  Uttering these five words has definitely got me thinking about what honour means as I cry out to give it to the Lord.

Honour isn’t a word we use in much in Australia.  I’m not sure why, but it’s almost an unspoken term.  The dictionary talks about honour as showing respect, worshipping, being courteous to or keeping and fulfilling obligations.  I’m still processing all that it means in this context of my heart crying out to honour God.

So far though, I know my plea is that with every breath, every word and every action I would bring glory to God’s name.  It makes sense that my heart is praying and asking Him for help as there is no way I could ever meet such a lofty goal on my own!!!

If you have any tips for practical choices to make, let me know.

WOW Ange! Thank you. That poem is a huge challenge … what a great reminder of where our heart and mind should be in such a variety of challenging situations. Do you know if I can download it in a printable form so I can put it on the wall? If not I’ll just type it out.

I’m glad you liked the poem too – I thought it summed things up perfectly. If you right click the image from the website you should be able to “save picture as” and then print it out.
